[Opinion] Apparently Rep Ilhan Omar objects to the United States deporting people in the country who have committed murders rapes and terrorist sympathizers. She claims her stance is about Covid-19, however, the facts suggest otherwise. As it turns out, DHS says all of their recent deportations to nations requiring Covid tests before entry were tested and the results all came back negative.

Omar once tried to help Somalians, who trying to join terrorist organizations, out of suffering the lawful consequences of their actions by writing a letter to the court advocating for ‘”restorative justice,” rehabilitation, and leniency over a “long-term prison sentence.”  Now, she wants violent criminals to be kept in the United States.

There are 36 criminals from Somalia she wants to protect from deportation.  Among them are murderers, terrorist supporters, and even one who attempted a sex crime with a minor.

It sure feels like Omar is using the virus as a pretext in hopes it will allow her to prevent deportations.  She does not seem to care what crimes those up for removal have committed,  she wants them to remain here. She has been a staunch supporter of the ‘protests,’ and has voiced her desire to ICE shut down entirely.  Without ICE it would stand to reason that more criminals would remain in America.

At some point, the rule of law must be followed.

Omar, IMHO, is an extremist and it is a stain on the good people of Minnesota that she is allowed to represent them. Not because she is a Muslim but rather for, what I see as, her openness concerning her desire to tear America down. She does not respect this country but she demands that this country respect her and bow to her every whim. That is not how it works. If you are not a citizen and commit a major felony, you are sent packing. Period. Amen. End of story.

Omar tweeted, indicating that she planned to formally confront the department over its agenda:

“ICE is set to deport dozens of individuals from my district to Somalia, risking the spread of COVID. ICE’s actions will not only put these individuals at risk, but could have far-reaching consequences for Somalia. This week, I sent a letter to ICE to get answers.”

Omar and others said in a letter issued last month:

“For detainees who are immunocompromised or otherwise susceptible to the worst consequences of contracting COVID-19, holding them in detention may be literally a matter of life and death. Deporting people who may have been exposed to coronavirus to either countries that have few or no cases or to countries with weak health care infrastructure is an unacceptable risk to take. Many countries, including the United States, are implementing strict border controls during this pandemic, and we should make no exception for ICE Air and deportations.”

DHS has now responded:

“This week, ICE removed 39 Somali nationals, 36 of whom have criminal histories. These crimes include murder, rape, domestic violence, assault, sexual assault, crimes against children, drug trafficking, and conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. These individuals have created countless victims and were serious threats to the public.”

“From approximately April 2008 to August 2012, [detainee Mahdi Mohammed Hashi] served as a member of al-Shabaab in Somalia.  In 2012, he was extradited to the United States to face federal prosecution in the Eastern District of New York.  Hashi pleaded guilty to providing material support to al-Shabaab, and on January 29, 2016, was sentenced to nine years imprisonment and issued a judicial order of removal.  Upon his release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Leavenworth, Kansas, he entered ICE custody April 6, 2020.”

DHS noted that all 39 detainees tested negative for DTMNBN. They pose no risk if they are sent back, except for the fact that they consist of violent criminal and sex offenders.  That is out of our jurisdiction. Somalia must deal with it. But the detainees we return cannot spread the disease unless they catch it there. If they have any sense, Somalia will probably want to detain the 39 criminals anyway.
