Candace Owens is striking back against Facebook fact-checkers.
Owens announced on Thursday that she is bringing a lawsuit against what Facebook calls fact-checkers but in reality are liberal activists who use their position to censor conservatives. Owens has had her Facebook page demonetized and she is suing the alleged fact-checkers as ma means of recovering her losses.
“It is time to fact-check the fact-checkers. I’m going to put these suckers through discovery and figure out what the relationship is that they have with Facebook.”
“Quite literally a doctor gave his opinion about COVID-19, which I shared, and Facebook issued a strike on my account because they said only information that they agree with about COVID-19 … was acceptable.”
You can expect the fact checkers to get a lot of help from Facebook. If Owens wins her lawsuit, Zuckerberg could be buried in lawsuits so badly that his great grandchildren will need lawyers. It could also cost him his Section 230 protection. That would be very costly for Facebook.
But, the thing that might really be worrying Facebook is that Owens can get depositions from the alleged fact checkers during discovery. They will have to explain what Facebook instructed them to do. Of course, the fact checkers could be doing this all on their own but that would mean Facebook is not providing any oversight.
“I decided I was not going to give up and sit down. The fact-checkers. .. they are activists for the left that shut down your speech if they don’t like it.”
The defendants include USA Today and Lead Stories Fact Checker. Fox News reached out to Facebook, Leade Stories and Gannett for a comment. None of them answered. Gannett is the company that owns USA Today.
The alleged fact checkers label posts “false,” “altered” and “missing context.” When they do, Facebook punishes the poster even if they did not violate terms of service.
I wish Candace the best of luck and I hope she collects millions. That will throw their whole business model down the toilet.
