Many of the questions that go through our minds (if you’re like me, anyway) revolve around what we have to look forward to when we depart from this mortal body. If you’re a student of the Bible, you don’t have to look very long before you run into descriptions of what is outside this physical sphere in which we live, and the first four books of the New Testament are filled with the words of Jesus Christ as he lived his life here on earth.
One of the things that never really occurred to me was that on at least one occasion he used words that today might be called an alternative, or perhaps more accurately, correcting a misdiagnosis. The story that follows is one that follows a similar pattern.
More from GodTV:
61-year-old former Nebraska sports announcer, Scott Marr was pulled from life support when a miracle happened.
Scott was admitted to the hospital after what appeared to be a major stroke left swelling in his brain. His family had been told to get ready for the worst. His daughter, Preston Marr, even posted a picture of herself and her father on her Facebook saying, “What am I supposed to do without you?”
Friends of the Marr family were sharing their prayers and condolences, expecting that Scott would be gone soon. The whole family even started to discuss organ donation. They made the difficult decision to take him off life support because he was no longer breathing on his own.
Scott’s family was told that he would pass quickly. But soon after they unplugged the life support, an impossible thing happened. Scott’s oxygen remained above 90 percent. As the family was planning his funeral, they received the amazing news that Scott was responsive.
Scott went through further tests and it turned out that instead of a stroke, he suffered a condition called Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome which was caused by high blood pressure.
“This whole thing has been a miracle from God. I did not die, I don’t have to die. I’m back here, and I hope to give people some comfort and hope that if they are in fact going through anything like that, that it’s [a] safe place,” he said in an interview with KMTV.
God works in ways we cannot see. And we need to trust Him in everything, may it be in sickness or in pain. He is fully in charge of everything we’ve been through. If He was able to perform a miracle in Scott’s life, then He can possibly do the same thing in your life too. Do not lose hope! Whatever you’ve been going through right now, know that God is working for your good.
Watch and be inspired:
The reference to which I alluded at the top of this article is the account recorded in the book of Luke, Chapter 8, beginning in verse 40:
40On the other side of the lake the crowds welcomed Jesus, because they had been waiting for him.41Then a man named Jairus, a leader of the local synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come home with him. 42His only daughter,f who was about twelve years old, was dying.
As Jesus went with him, he was surrounded by the crowds. 43A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding,g and she could find no cure. 44Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.
45“Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.”
46But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.” 47When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. 48“Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
49While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”
50But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.”
51When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn’t let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the little girl’s father and mother. 52The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said, “Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”
53But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died. 54Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, “My child, get up!” 55And at that moment her lifeh returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56Her parents were overwhelmed, but Jesus insisted that they not tell anyone what had happened.
Did you see what he did there? Everyone in the room had diagnosed the sick little girl as being dead. Jesus reversed the crowd’s diagnosis – and credited her daddy’s faith as the deciding factor in the reversal of her situation.
In the story of this gentleman who was thought to be dead, it turned out that misdiagnosis was at the root of the problem, and his situation was reversed, and my inclination is to believe it was because of the prayers of his loved ones. In the video, he says he saw his late father briefly. His dad asked him why he was there, and when he told his dad he was looking for work, his dad told him “there’s no work here…” and he then returned to Earth.
There are many many stories of what have become commonly known as near-death experiences, and his story parallels that of similar ones I’ve heard. I’ve never heard the details of his story, but our own David Harris Jr. has mentioned recently that he had such an experience, and promised to relate more of the story soon.
