During a press briefing on Wednesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took aim at Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), who’s believed to be the dirtbag behind, and actively pushing, a false narrative of wrongdoing in the Trump administration and the State Department, after the firing of State Department Inspector General (IG) Steve Linick.
Pompeo referenced Menendez’s scandal-plagued tenure as a US Senator, noting it included a criminal prosecution and stated that was not from where he sought his ethics guidance.
“[H]ere’s the last thing to think about as you see these stories that have been leaked to you all — to the press,” Pompeo said. “This is all coming through the office of Senator Menendez. I don’t get my ethics guidance from a man who was criminally prosecuted, Case #15-155, New Jersey Federal District Court. A man for whom his Senate colleagues, bipartisan, said that basically, he was taking bribes. That’s not someone who I look to for ethics guidance. So, I’ll continue to do the right thing to make sure the State Department is served by every employee, including our inspector general. And we’ll make sure the State Department continues to deliver on behalf of the American people.”
“His Senate colleagues, bipartisan, said basically that he was taking bribes,” Pompeo said.
BAM! Someone call 9-1-1, because Pompeo just murdered Bob Menendez!
Menendez’s office accused Pompeo of having Linick fired over retaliation of something Pompeo had no idea was going on.
“Reports indicate that Secretary Pompeo personally made the recommendation to fire Mr. Linick, and it is our understanding that he did so because the inspector general had opened an investigation into wrongdoing by Secretary Pompeo himself,” Engel and Menendez said Saturday. “Such an action, transparently designed to protect Secretary Pompeo from personal accountability, would undermine the foundation of our democratic institutions and may be an illegal act of retaliation.”
How can there be retaliation when Pompeo had no clue there was even an investigation? Pompeo himself said it is impossible that Linick was fired over retaliation because he never knew there was anything to ever retaliate against.
To make that point, the Secretary of State claimed the only thing he ever knew about what was going on inside Linick’s office, which had nothing to do with his firing, was one case in the past.
“I was asked a series of questions in writing … I responded to those questions,” he said, in an apparent reference to questions pertaining to an arms sale. “I did what was right. I don’t know if that investigation is continuing. I don’t know if that investigation was closed out. I don’t have any sense of that.”
First of all, according to Article II of the Constitution, the president may fire anyone who works in the Executive branch for any reason he sees fit.
Linick’s office, among other things, criticized several Trump appointees for their treatment of career staff for allegedly being insufficiently supportive of Trump and his policies, according to the AP. Well, boo-hoo for the deep state. Go back to Article II. The president may fire anyone who works for him without reason.
This president has dealt with deep state haters working in the Executive branch since day one who has gone out of their way to screw him over. They leaked like a sieve daily for over a year, and some conspired to help Democrats in their phony impeachment of the president.
Remember, it was the Obama Justice Department that charged Menendez with felony counts of bribery, conspiracy, and fraud among other various crimes.
No matter how much this New Jersey bum tries to rebuild his image, his record of accepting generous bribes from a Florida doctor, who himself was convicted of defrauding Medicare, tells a completely different story.
