Republicans on Tuesday said that the so-called impeachment inquiry activities so far are like a “kangaroo court” led by Democrats who are already convinced President Donald Trump is guilty of some wrongdoing.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) declared the beginning of an impeachment inquiry based on a transcript of a telephone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky, BEFORE she ever saw the transcript, and after the entire world was able to read it, the contents were nothing even close to what Pelosi and other Democrats said would be in there. That’s where we have been for a couple weeks.
We later found out that deep state resistance creeps in the intelligence community secretly changed the rule that dictated whistleblower information being used in a complaint must be firsthand knowledge to “any-hand” knowledge will do. The resulting egg on Pelosi’s face is why it’s dangerous to play around with rules that are put in place for a reason.
Republicans rightly argued that House Democrats have been conducting the impeachment inquiry behind closed doors with zero Republican involvement. Republicans are being kept out of the process by the House Democrat leadership. We have never seen such a display of unconstitutional behavior and a complete dismissal of precedence like this to attack a sitting president.
Pelosi was supposed to hold a vote to see if a majority of House members supported an impeachment inquiry, and she didn’t do that, because despite the lies told by Fake News and Democrats, they don’t have the votes. And there is precedent for a vote, as it was done by the House for Presidents Nixon and Clinton.
Republicans in Congress say that a vote is necessary to bring some legitimacy to the so-called impeachment inquiry, and that the minority party has certain rights in the process that Democrats have take away from them, things like the power to issue subpoenas to call witnesses. The entire thing literally is a kangaroo court.
The White House sent a letter Speaker Pelosi and committee chairmen arguing it would no longer cooperate in their investigation and they rejected the proceedings as a mock court focused on overturning the 2016 election.
Democrats are cherry-picking so-called evidence and mischaracterizing statements made during testimony BEHIND CLOSED DOORS so that the public can’t see what’s going on.
The behavior of the Democrats are reminiscent of the old Soviet Union when an “investigation” was simply done as a formality just to be able to tell he public they did one, and all the while they were rigging the outcome with lies and false evidence. The Soviet government would make up words the accused never said. Sound familiar?
House Democrats last week leaked text messages provided by one of the witnesses, former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker, that appeared damaging to the president, but Republicans said the release of the entire transcript of Volker’s remarks would disprove their allegations.
House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-AZ), slammed the Democrats for holding “secret hearings” and called on them to release the transcript of Volker’s testimony:
After claiming for more than two years that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians to influence the 2016 election, Adam Schiff and his band of Democrats are back to their old tricks of manufacturing evidence to fit their narrative. This time, however, they are holding secret hearings to prevent the American people from learning the facts and deciding for themselves.
They have leaked portions of the transcript and select documents from the Volker deposition in a desperate attempt to deceive the country. The American people deserve transparency, and we are calling on these chairmen to immediately deliver the full and complete transcript immediately.
Representative Lee Zeldin (R-NY) who supports the president, called the inquiry a “kangaroo court” and a “clown show”:
As far as the administration goes, if they don’t want to send Amb. Sondland here because this is a kangaroo court, because there has not been a vote once on impeachment inquiry, because minority does not have any rights for subpoenas, because the president doesn’t have the right to have counsel present to ask questions, for subpoena power, to present evidence. This entire thing is a political charade. It’s a clown show.
The president on Tuesday announced that he would not let Ambassador Gordon Sondland testify to Congress later that day as scheduled. He allowed Sondland to travel to D.C., and then one hour prior to the hearing he pulled the plug on the ambassador’s appearance. The president did that after Pelosi and Schiff said they would charge obstruction and proceed with an impeachment vote if Trump didn’t let him testify, so Trump is blatantly calling their bluff, because he knows they don’t have the votes. Trump also knows that every day that goes by more and more evidence is revealed that proves their entire illegal impeachment inquiry is falling apart.
