In 2016, some Google executives realized that the company had “political power” and they allegedly tried to flex it against Donald Trump.
Newly released emails of Google employees show how senior staffers reacted to President Trump’s election victory in 2016, with top-level employees saying they were “surprised” by his popularity among Hispanic and Latino voters. Not all Hispanic voters believed the lies told about Trump and Latinos.
The emails, according to Fox News, were written by Google’s head of Multicultural Marketing, and reveal the tech giant’s efforts to turnout the vote ahead of the 2016 general election. And they just assumed that all Hispanic voters would hate Donald Trump as much as they did.
The email chain was sent out on November 9, 2016. The first email, “Elections results and the Latino vote,” was written by Google’s Multicultural Marketing department head, Eliana Murillo. In the four-page email (675 words), Murillo describes how she and her coworkers engaged in “non-partisan activities” (snicker) to boost Latino voting turnout. However, Murillo slipped up and admitted that despite Google’s “political power,” only “71% of Latinos voted for Hillary, and that wasn’t enough.”
“We worked very hard. Many people did. We pushed to get out the Latino vote with our features, our partners, and our voices. We kept our Googley efforts non-partisan and followed our company’s protocols for the elections strategy,” it said in the email. The company used YouTubers, social media events, and a non-partisan campaign focusing on “the power of the Latino vote.”
“Ultimately, after all was said and one [sic], the Latino community did come out to vote, and completely surprised us. We never anticipated that 29% of Latinos would vote for Trump. No one did,” the executive wrote.
Could that be because she assumed all Hispanic people think and vote the same way? Racism much?
At the end of the email it said that Latino Googler’s are “probably hurting right now” and that the election results are “tough to handle now that we know not all of us were against this.”
This Google executive recognized that Latinos, who have always been seen as a giant windfall in American politics, did vote in 2016, in record numbers, and turned out early, and a significant percentage went for Donald Trump and not Hillary Clinton.
From Fox News:
Post-election surveys found that Trump performed better among Latinos than most analysts had predicted.
“Objectively speaking, our goal was met—we pushed and successfully launched the search features in Spanish, and we thank Lisa for her support in advocating for this work. I sent Philipp a note yesterday to thank him because he and others voiced their support this too, and we greatly appreciate it. Even Sundar [Pichai, Google’s CEO] gave the effort a shout out and comment in Spanish, which was really special.”
A Google spokesperson previously told Fox News: “The views expressed in this email are the employee’s personal political views and are not representative of any official stance from the company. Google’s elections efforts—both in 2016 and leading up to this year’s midterms—have been entirely nonpartisan. We will continue to use our products in an informative, nonpartisan way to engage voters leading up to November’s election.”
Murillo apparently had seen a headline claiming that the early Latino vote meant that “Trump is dead” in the election. She wrote:
“On a personal note, we really thought we had shown up to demonstrate our political power against a candidate who had vehemently offended our community by calling us rapists and drug dealers. We read the headline and thought WOW, we did it!”
With the entire establishment news media blatantly and transparently in the tank for Hillary Clinton, and the social media tech giants covertly using their computer magic to help the Democrat candidate, along with high ranking officials of the Department of Justice and FBI using the powers of government to help Hillary get away with her criminal violations to win, makes it all the more EPIC that Donald Trump won anyway.
