House Democrat Leadership issued a statement Monday afternoon condemning Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), calling her anti-Semitic comments “deeply offensive” and insisting that the freshman lawmaker immediately apologize for her “hurtful comments.”
“We are and will always be strong supporters of Israel in Congress because we understand that our support is based on shared values and strategic interests. Legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies is protected by the values of free speech and democratic debate that the United States and Israel share,” the top House Democrats said in a joint statement. “But Congresswoman Omar’s use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters is deeply offensive. We condemn these remarks, and we call upon Congresswoman Omar to immediately apologize for these hurtful comments.”
Omar serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. That’s as ridiculous as having Iran on the Human Rights Council at the UN.
The statement from Pelosi and the other Democrats who signed on doesn’t mention anything about potential actions regarding her committee assignments – probably because it’s all political. Omar, one of the first two Muslim women in Congress, drew stern condemnation from Republicans and fellow Democrats Monday after suggesting U.S. support for Israel is fueled by money from the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.
The Minnesota freshman has faced criticism for weeks over her positions on the Jewish state, but it boiled over late Sunday after she reacted to statements by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in a tweet.
“It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” Omar replied, referring to American $100 bills featuring the likeness of Benjamin Franklin.
When a user asked who Omar believes is paying US politicians to support Israel, the former Somali refugee tweeted a one-word response: “AIPAC!”
The exchanges triggered an uproar. Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of which Omar is a member, said: “Anti-Semitism in any form is unacceptable, and it’s shocking to hear a Member of Congress invoke the anti-Semitic trope of ‘Jewish money.’”
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) urged Democrat leaders to “condemn this anti-Semitism” and remove Omar from the committee.
Two Democrats, Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Elaine Luria (D-VA), who are both Jewish, wrote a letter addressed to Democrat leaders, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), urging them to take “swift action” against any anti-Semitic language by House members. The letter did not mention Omar by name, but it was pretty clear who they were talking about.
On Monday, after receiving intense backlash from members of her own party for comments on Israel and Jews that were widely denounced as anti-Semitic, Omar apologized.

Even in an apology over her bigotry, Omar insulted millions of Americans by mentioning the NRA as a problematic lobbying group. Currently, there are about 5 million NRA members. The NRA is one of the leading reasons why progressive tyrants haven’t yet turned us into another Venezuela-like failed state or a police state by their support for the Second Amendment and our right to keep and bear arms.
Democrats are now coming out of the woodwork to condemn Omar’s anti-Semitism, but I have to ask why they waited until now to say something? She has been making anti-Semitic statements before and after she was elected to the House of Representatives. Democrats waited until the fury over her bigotry grew so big they could no longer ignore it, and that is the real problem. They are condemning her statements for political reasons and not because it’s the right thing to do. If anybody thinks she apologized for any other reason than she was ordered to do so by Speaker Pelosi, I have some beach front property in Montana I could sell you.
My book is here! And I personally handed a copy to our President at the White House!!! I hope you enjoy it
