The Democrats want to make sure they don’t have to sabotage Bernie Sanders in 2020 by sabotaging him in 2018. The DNC and the Democratic politicians are working on a rule that only a true Democrat can win their nomination. They don’t mind having a candidate who is a socialist, they just want a candidate that doesn’t admit they are a socialist. Let’s face it, Democrats are going to have a rough row to hoe as it is. With the economy roaring and ISIS in full retreat, diplomacy going our way and unfair trading partners soon to be eliminated, the country will be very much inclined to reelect President Trump by an even larger margine than last time.
The Democratic National Committee adopted a new rule Friday aimed at preventing non-Democrats, such as independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, from seeking the party’s 2020 presidential nomination, reports said.
The rule change, adopted at a DNC meeting in Providence, R.I., requires all candidates for the party’s nomination to “run and serve” as Democrats, Yahoo News reported.
Some supporters of Sanders — who caucuses with the Democrats despite declining to declare a party affiliation — say the move was motivated by “spite” after Sanders gave Hillary Clinton a run for her money during the Democratic primaries in 2016.

The real problem that Democrats face is their use of Super Delegates who can vote any way they please regardless of how their state primary and caucus results come out. They cost Hillary the nomination in 2008 and Bernie the nomination in 2016. There was a suggestion to do away with them for 2020 but that went nowhere.
This could backfire big time for the Democrats if Bernie decides to run a third party campaign. Bernie would not win the presidency but neither would the Democratic candidate and whatever party Bernie runs on would probably earn a spot on the next couple of presidential elections.
