‘The President’s Right’: Interior Chief Pushes Thinning Forests to Cut Fire Risk

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, touring neighborhoods devastated by the Carr Fire, stepped up the Trump administration’s push Sunday to remove more trees from national forests as a means of tamping down fire risks.

“We need to manage our forests, we need to reduce the fuels,” Zinke said as he overlooked Whiskeytown Lake in the vicinity where the Carr Fire began July 23.

Starting a two-day tour of the Redding area, Zinke also took a shot at environmental groups that he said are standing in the way of aggressive forest management. In some cases, environmental groups have successfully used litigation to block or curtail logging operations on public lands.

“The public lands belong to everybody, not just the special interest groups,” he said as he stood in front of a largely destroyed neighborhood in the Keswick Estates area of west Redding.

Zinke’s visit came about a week after President Donald Trump enraged environmentalists by suggesting in two tweets that California’s environmental policies had worsened fire hazards by depriving firefighters of water and leaving the forests too dense. Cal Fire officials said they have plenty of water.

Zinke seized on the forestry issue, saying, “This is an example, the president’s right. This is an example of we have to actively manage our forests.”

Some environmental groups have acknowledged that forests have grown too thick and should be managed with occasional cutting as well as planned or “prescribed” burns when fire risks are low. Gov. Jerry Brown has put more than $90 million of additional forest-management funds into the fiscal 2019 budget, and groups such as the Public Policy Institute of California and the Little Hoover Commission, the state’s in-house think tank, have called for more aggressive forest management.

But environmentalists fear the Trump administration is using the horrific 2018 fire season as a way to clear-cut treasured forests.

“They’re using the opportunity of fires … to advance some backward-looking approaches to the environment,” said Kathryn Phillips, director of Sierra Club California, in an interview.

Char Miller, a professor of environmental analysis at Pomona College, said forest management “as Ryan Zinke and others describe it is an indiscriminate cutting.”

He and others added that Zinke’s argument misses the point about the Carr Fire and some of the other destructive blazes that have hit California this year: They started in shrublands, not thick forests.

Phillips said the Trump administration also is ignoring the root cause of the rash of wildfires this year: climate change, which has stretched out the fire season.

The Trump administration has sparred repeatedly with California officials over climate-related issues, including rules governing greenhouse gas emissions from cars. Zinke, asked about climate, said, “It doesn’t matter whether you believe or don’t believe in climate change. What is important is we manage our forests.”

Later he added, “This is not a debate about climate change. There’s no doubt the (fire) season is getting longer, the temperatures are getting hotter.”

He also denied any suggestions that he wants to see wholesale logging operations on public lands. “No one loves public lands more than me,” he said. Forests can be thinned without “destroying our habitat (and) making sure our endangered species get protected,” he said.

“We’re not advocating widespread logging.”

McClatchy has reported that the Trump administration has proposed reducing the Interior Department and U.S. Forest Service’s fire-prevention budgets. Zinke, however, said he’s been directing funds to removing dead and dying trees.

At Whiskeytown, Zinke pointed across lake to a forested area that suffered fire damage but wasn’t destroyed. What saved the forest, he said, was the fact that it had been subjected to prescribed burns and mechanical cutting in prior years.

“This is an example,” he said. “You can see where treatment was done.”

He added that he and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, who will join Zinke on Monday, will ask Congress for authorization to streamline procedures for clearing out dead and dying trees. Some of those trees can be salvaged for timber, he said, and their removal will help reduce fire risks.

The Carr Fire, which forced the evacuation of 40,000 Redding-area residents, had burned 191,211 acres and was 59 percent contained as of Sunday, according to Cal Fire. It has been blamed for eight deaths.

“Looks like Iraq. Devastating,” said Zinke, a former Navy SEAL, as he walked through the area in Keswick Estates where the “fire tornado” whipped up winds of 160 mph and toppled electrical transmission towers.

He also met with neighbors whose homes survived — and some who were digging out the rubble of where their homes used to be.

“I’m glad at least everyone’s safe,” he told Patti Jo Peters, who was shoveling through rubble at her brother’s destroyed home, looking for stray belongings, in the community of Keswick.

Ya gotta love it! For so many years we’ve been subjected to the blithering idiots pushing the junk science of global warming (Al Gore, thank you very much! ) . Then there are all the countless “endangered” species of flora and fauna that are supposedly in such grave danger of extinction if we don’t take these extreme measures to protect them. Never mind the consequence we’re now experiencing, in that the lack of proper forestry management threatens members of the human species with extinction, as  what happened to 7 people that have died as a result of the Carr fire, and others still out of control in California.

I’m glad the president has Twitter to “stir the pot”. The southeastern edge of the Carr fire is just a few short miles from my residence, and the smoke is still lingering as I write this. The message couldn’t be more clear. EVERY place that is dominated by Liberal (mis)management is a disaster area. The cities of Detroit, San Francisco,New York City and Chicago are prime examples of cities devastated by clueless Liberal policies that have laid them to waste. Out in the forest we’re seeing the same with the California wildfires. We’re going on a month now with haze and smoke that makes the place look worse than the polluted air of Los Angeles in the 70s.

Please join us in our mission to join with the president as he pursues his mission to Make America Great Again. He can’t do it by himself, and if we just sit around and do nothing, the resulting vacuum created by the anti-American powers-that-be will suck us down into the very Swamp they have gotten started in Washington, D.C.

Many States are passing “HEARTBEAT BILLS” to much celebration by the pro-life Christian community. But it can be used by the opposition with dire long-term consequences if Christians do not follow this up correctly.

In early April 2019, Georgia passed the “Heartbeat Bill” by one vote.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that within days the Georgia Democrats rallied around its passage.  Seven women announced their intent to run against Republican State legislators that voted for the bill.

The “Heartbeat Bill” prohibits abortion, with some exceptions, after doctors can discern a fetal heartbeat happening around six to eight weeks of pregnancy. The strong argument against the timing is that it is before some women even know they are pregnant.

Georgia previously had a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

The governors in Mississippi and Kentucky signed “fetal heartbeat” measures into law in recent weeks, and other states — including Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas — are expected to pass similar Bills this year.

All the States passing “Heartbeat Bills” are seeing quick legal challenges. Courts have ruled the measures in Kentucky, Iowa, and North Dakota unconstitutional, stopping them from taking effect.

The Courts will get involved as similar Bills clash with Supreme Court decisions that recognize a woman’s right to an abortion. The Court has held against States laws until a fetus is viable outside the womb, usually around 24 weeks into a pregnancy.

Since 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court recognized a constitutional right to abortion but held that states could prohibit abortion after fetal viability—the point at which a fetus can sustain life outside the womb—unless the life of the Mother is in danger.

While the battle for the various “Heartbeat Bills” go to the Courts, the Political War will reach a fever pitch.

Democrats are confident the Courts will strike these Bills down. Meanwhile, they will use it to energize their base for the upcoming 2020 elections.

Suburban women are the target. The Far Left will broadcast that their “Rights” will soon be taken away.

“Women’s Rights” advocates will hit the streets knocking on doors raising the temperature. They will do everything they can to ensure the Democrats take over the power of the State House and Senate in all of these States.
The issue is guaranteed to be a primary issue in the upcoming election.

Will the Church show up? Will the conservatives and pro-Life community, so comfortably vocal on Facebook from their living rooms, actually get out and support, volunteer, to help their local Republican party? WIll they do what they have never done before, and send money to help pro-life candidates?

In December 2016, Ohio Gov. John Kasich vetoed the Ohio “heartbeat” bill that would ban abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detectable. Kasich, who is pro-life, vetoed the heartbeat bill because it likely wouldn’t hold up in federal courts.

The move may seem like a victory for abortion advocates. However, at the same time, Kasich signed into law a bill that bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This move is far more threatening to abortion rights in the state and country than the heartbeat legislation.

The 20-week threshold is the point at which medical science has proven that a fetus can feel pain.

There are only seven countries that allow abortions after 20 weeks, including the United States.

More than a third of states have successfully implemented “20-week abortion bans,” according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Kasich’s Ohio bill mirrors the national Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  It banned late-term abortions nationwide after 20 weeks post-fertilization and first introduced in Congress in 2013.

The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives three times under a Republican majority in 2013, 2015 and 2017. It received a majority of votes twice in the U.S. Senate but has failed to reach the 60 votes required to break the filibuster.

The late-term or after-20-weeks ban may be the best strategy as Doctors have more information now of when a child can feel pain.  Polls say that even among pro-choice Americans, they are strongly opposed to late-term abortions.

It is time we redefine what late-term abortion is.

New York passed and enacted the Reproductive Health Act which allows doctors and other healthcare professionals to perform abortions up to the point of birth. Soon after this Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam made controversial comments about procedures after birth. This outraged Americans from both sides of the issue.

Shortly after these moves on late-term abortion hit the airwaves, a poll was done by Americans United for Life and USAGOV.

The survey found that 66% of pro-choice Americans oppose abortion in the third trimester, or after 28 weeks of pregnancy, eight weeks after the child can feel pain. A full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks, which the New York law now allows.

According to Real Clear Politics, the annual Marist poll on abortion found that the overwhelming majority of Americans – usually three-quarters or more – want abortion restricted to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy.

If the 2020 elections would give the Pro-Life Republicans a stronger majority in the Senate, closer to the 60 vote threshold needed, The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act could get passed. President Trump would undoubtedly sign it.

There is an argument that only 2% of abortions are performed after 20 weeks. Out of 638,169 abortions in 2018 alone, this would have possibly prevented that 2% or 12,763 deaths of children over 20 weeks.

The 20-week rule may not be enough for those of us who believe every life matters, but it would put an end to the concept of later-term term abortions that leads to infanticide.

Most importantly, a priority should be put on educating women that this child can feel pain. It is a child.

Of course, if Nancy Pelosi is still in charge of the House after 2020, any abortion restriction would be “dead on arrival.” No pun intended.

Elections Matter.

The advocates for unlimited abortion are revved up for the coming 2020 elections. They will be using “Women’s Rights” and the “Heartbeat Bills” to promote their agenda.

Christians must be in vocal prayer that the Lord will open eyes to the best, smartest, strategy to end abortion and be ready to take action.

Most importantly, ALL of those who celebrate the passing of the Heartbeat Bills must put action behind their words and open their wallets in the next election.

If it doesn’t happen, there will be dire long-term consequences. The long-range battle can be easily lost, and Democrats will capitalize on this.

Pray of course, but if Action doesn’t follow Prayer, it doesn’t work in the long term.

We must act more on John 2 as “Faith without Works is Dead…” and Elections Matter!

‘Jeopardy’ Host Alex Trebek Diagnosed With Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer

I can’t speak for others, but in my house, Alex Trebek is a household icon due to his presence on the game show Jeopardy. If nothing else, it sparked a desire to learn more about topics that were used to formulate the questions and answers used on the program. For me, it revealed how wide the spectrum of human experience is, and how little I knew about some of the specialties that made up the daily categories.

Until I saw this report of his recent health issues, I never gave much thought to his age, and I marvel at his overall appearance of good health and charisma as he hosted the show. The bad news is, he’s been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The good news is he isn’t throwing in the towel, and intends to fight to stay alive, and has plans to give his best shot to honor the terms of his contract with the show!

From Breitbart:

Longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek announced Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and vowed to fight the deadly disease.

In a video shared to YouTube, Trebek said “I’m going to fight this” and “I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”

Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of the major cancers, with 91 percent of patients dying within five years of diagnosis, according to the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

“Normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working,” said Trebek. “And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”

“Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done,” he continued.

Trebek, who has hosted Jeopardy! since 1984, renewed his contract through 2022. In 2017, the 78-year-old underwent brain surgery to remove blood clots.

We wish Alex the best, and hope and pray for his speedy recovery, despite the seriousness of the diagnosis.

Beverly Hills 90210 Star Luke Perry Passed Away At Age 52 [Video]

If you recall the TV series Beverly Hills 90210, you may be acquainted with the name Luke Perry.

The show itself was originally based around the lives of a group of high school students living in the wealthy 90210 zip-code Beverly Hills neighborhood. As the characters got older, the show then moved on to their college days. The kids became friends and enemies, fell in and out of love, and went through an endless series of crises as this small group somehow becomes personally involved in every newsworthy social issue from AIDS to alcoholism to apartheid in South Africa to pregnancy.

Luke had been quoted as saying he will be attached forever to the character Dylan McKay, despite efforts he made to pick up more mature roles throughout his career.

This from Breitbart:

Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry died Monday after suffering a massive stroke last week, TMZ reports.

Perry, 52, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, California. The actor was rushed to the hospital last Wednesday after suffering a stroke at his Sherman Oaks residence. “His reps said doctors had sedated Luke, hoping to give his brain a fighting chance to recover from the trauma of the stroke … but apparently, the damage was too extensive,” according to TMZ.

Born in Fredericktown, Ohio, Perry enjoyed notoriety as a heartthrob with co-star Jason Priestley on Beverly Hills 90210.

The hit-show aired between 1990 and 2000.

The actor also had roles in moves such as American Strays and 8 Seconds, along with appearances in the HBO prison drama Oz.  He also voiced the cartoons Mortal Kombat and The Incredible Hulk.
