Opinion| Lawrence David| This is what the anarchist left calls justice.
Adolfo Martinez of Ames, Iowa stole an LGBTQ flag from a church and torched it.
He was sentenced to 15 years for committing a hate crime, one year for reckless use of explosives or fire, and 30 days for harassment. The sentences will run concurrently.
Moronic leftists justified his sentence because he is classified as a “habitual offender.” No one was reported to be hurt in the incident. Murderers and rapists get less time.
The prosecutor, Story County Attorney Jessica Reynolds, explained that she argued for the maximum sentence because “I believe him to be very dangerous.”
Reynolds said the judge agreed to the 17-year sentence because Martinez has a long history of harassment and is a “habitual offender” and never showed any remorse.
What if he burned 100 American flags? He’d be a hero to these anarchists.
Habitual offender? Exactly how would you describe Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez? Shame on you if you don’t remember the name of this scumbag.
Lopez-Sanchez is the illegal alien and repeat felon who was deported five times before he shot and killed Kate Steinle on a San Francisco pier.
Lopez-Sanchez lived in Texas prior to arriving in San Francisco. Texas authorities said he was on probation when he left the state.
ICE said Lopez-Sanchez has seven felony convictions, four for drug offenses.
He was released from federal prison in March 2015, after serving several years for felony reentry after deportation. A few months later, Kate Steinle was dead.
Lopez-Sanchez’s penalty? He’s a free man. Forget the murder, he wasn’t even convicted on gun charges.
As far as burning the American flag, the Supreme Court has ruled the act is protected by the First Amendment.
It’s a heavy lift if you want to convince Americans that burning an LGBTQ flag is more threatening to society than burning the flag under which generations of our brave fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters have fought and died.
If logic were to prevail, we’d be down to penalizing Martinez for theft. A reasonable penalty? Replace the flag and pay a fine of $1,000. But that doesn’t move the needle for the anarchists on the Left.
