President Donald J. Trump on Wednesday announced an executive order that would require medical care be given to infants who are born alive after failed abortion attempts after the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act has been introduced countless times in Congress and failed to become law.

“I will always protect the vital role of religion and prayer in American society. And I will always protect the sacred right to life. Today I am announcing that I am signing the Born Alive Executive Order to ensure that all precious babies born alive no matter their circumstances receive the medical care they deserve. This is our sacrosanct moral duty. We will also increase federal funding for neo-natal research to ensure that every child has the very best chance to thrive and to grow,” Trump said.

The Catholic Register reported:

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced an executive order that would require medical care be given to infants who are born alive after failed abortion attempts.

“We believe in the joy of family, the blessing of freedom and the dignity of work and the eternal truth that every child, born and unborn is made in the holy image of God. Today I am announcing that I will be signing the Born-Alive Executive Order to ensure that all precious babies born alive, no matter their circumstances, receive the medical care that they deserve. This is our sacrosanct moral duty,” said Trump Sept. 23, speaking in a pre-recorded video address during the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast virtual event.”

Reactions were swift from a supporter of Trump’s, one woman posted: “BREAKING!! President @realDonaldTrump announced at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast that will be signing an executive order protecting babies born-alive after a failed abortion. God bless our great President.”

Conservative Republican US rep. Doug Collins posted:

“Couldn’t be more proud of @realDonaldTrump for taking action to #EndInfanticide once and for all. Thanks to this President, millions of unborn babies will now have a chance at life.”

The Daily Caller reported:

“March for Life President Jeanne Mancini praised the president’s announcement in a Tuesday statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.“These steps had to be taken because some Democrats in the Senate promised to block legislation that mandates basic medical care for children who survive an abortion – an extremist view shared by Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris,” she said.”

Trump’s words come ahead of his Saturday announcement of his Supreme Court nominee. Trump will reportedly choose between federal judges Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa. The president has favored Amy Coney Barrett, a mother of seven who has sparked liberal anxieties through her Catholic faith and pro-life stances.

The Federalist reported on the matter:

“The president has hammered the issues of late-term abortion and infanticide ever since a Virginia bill introduced in January 2019 would have allowed abortion up until birth, eliminated informed consent, and permitted late-term abortions in outpatient clinics. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam endorsed the bill, explaining that babies born alive despite an attempted abortion would only be kept alive and resuscitated if “that’s what the mother and the family desired” after a “discussion” between them and doctors.”

Right to life is a consistent part of Trump’s platform.
