So…they actually went through with something (the House of Representatives, that is).
Speaker Pelosi was in an all-fired hurry to get the articles of impeachment drawn up against President Trump, but now that it’s been voted on, she’s been sitting on them, apparently hoping she can engineer a manipulative process by which she and her far-left cohorts can wrest control of the executive branch away from President Trump.
Now, after the successful strike against the world’s premier terrorist, General Solemeini, which the president authorized, and our military performed with flawless surgical precision, she and many other Swamp Rat Democrats are in mortal danger of being further exposed to allegations regarding their possible evil alliances with foreign powers.
There was talk earlier in the day today that they were going to pass an updated version of the War Powers Resolution, and President Trump did attempt to try to head them off at the pass, but Pelosi and company ignored him and forged ahead anyway.
From Fox News:
The House of Representatives on Thursday voted in favor of a War Powers Resolution meant to limit President Trump’s military action toward Iran following an escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The resolution passed, 224-194, mostly along party lines, but both parties had some defectors: eight Democrats voted against the measure and three Republicans voted in favor of it. Independent Rep. Justin Amash, who left the Republican Party last year, also voted in favor of the measure.
“We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said on the House floor. “The Constitution of the United States calls that there be cooperation when initiating hostilities.”
The resolution is non-binding but is meant to reassert congressional authority and rebuke Trump’s decision to take out Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike last Friday while he traveled to an airport in Baghdad, Iraq. Trump did not consult with congressional leaders ahead of the attack that killed the Iranian military leader and afterward sent Congress a notification explaining the rationale but kept it classified.
The resolution “requires the president to consult with Congress ‘in every possible instance’ before introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities.”
The measure also aimed to handcuff Trump when it comes to future strikes.
The resolution says that “Congress has not authorized the president to use military force against Iran.” The measure “directs the president to terminate the use of United States Armed Forces to engage in hostilities in or against Iran or any part of its government or military” unless there is a specific blessing by Congress.
“The president has the right and duty to protect this nation and our citizens from terrorism. That’s what he continues to do, and the world is safer for it,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley responded. “This House resolution tries to undermine the ability of the U.S. Armed Forces to prevent terrorist activity by Iran and its proxies, and attempts to hinder the president’s authority to protect America and our interests in the region from the continued threats. These Congressional actions are completely misguided. In fact, this ridiculous resolution is just another political move because, under well-established Supreme Court precedent, it’s non-binding and lacks the force of law.”
Freshman Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., who is a former CIA analyst and Pentagon official who served in Iraq, sponsored the measure.
Isn’t it curious to see how it’s a FRESHMAN congressperson who introduced the measure?
I always have to ask WHY it seems that the newbies are so often in the headlines on these controversial (and unconstitutional) forays into the never-never land of Deep State efforts to derail this president.
Who do the senior members think they’re fooling, anyway? With very few exceptions, every Democrat on the Hill is focused on doing one thing, and one thing only: Get Rid Of President Donald Trump By Any Means Necessary.
Pelosi insists they deserve more respect, but from this chair, it looks to me as if she’s the one who needs a lesson in respect, in particular when it comes to matters of things such as the separation of powers.
Trump has slammed the War Powers Resolution as “unconstitutional” and called on it to be repealed.
Smart analysis, I fully agree! https://t.co/0YMU7GunDt
