Texas Church Shooter Was a Convicted Felon – The Laws Already In Place Failed To Stop Him

A couple of days ago, we published the article, Bad Guy With Gun Kills One, Wounds One in Texas Church…Stopped By Good Guy With a Gun, a report on a shooting that took place at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas.

An updated report on the shooting said that both of the victims, 64-year-old Anton Wallace and 67-year-old Richard White, died. Mr. Wallace passed away at the scene, and Mr. White died later of his injuries while hospitalized.

We have information on the shooter that we think you will find interesting.

An online publication called The Pluralist had this report:

The man who opened fire in a Texas church on Sunday, killing two before being shot dead by parishioners, was identified as Keith Thomas Kinnunen, a convicted felon who, under federal law, could not legally own a gun.

Online court records show Kinnunen pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault and battery in a Grady County, Oklahoma court on August 15, 2013.

Kinnunen pled guilty to felony third-degree arson, also on August 15, 2013, according to court records.

Now then…I’ll give you three guesses (the first two don’t count) as to what gun control advocates are screaming from the rooftops.

As expected, they’re insisting that we need more and better (read, more restrictive) gun control measures enacted.

EVERY time the gun control crowd starts harping on more stringent laws, they completely ignore the accumulated statistics that prove the only ones who comply with the laws are the law-abiding citizen.

What they refuse to accept is that once again, this shooter was already a felon in possession of a weapon, and someone who should not have had any firearms whatsoever. It’s a FEDERAL law. Confessed felons do not qualify for firearms possession – period! More and stricter laws wouldn’t have helped one iota with regard to preventing the man’s shooting rampage.

There are a couple of sayings attributed to firearms expert Clint Smith, the founder of Thunder Ranch, that come to mind:

“When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.”

“I carry a gun ’cause a cop is too heavy.”

The point is this: if you examine the original report, the entire elapsed time from when the shooter started his assault until the appropriately trained and armed citizen delivered the shot that stopped him was a whopping SIX SECONDS later. If there hadn’t been trained and armed security at the church, there’s not much we can do to estimate how many more might have died, especially considering the shooter’s choice of weapon was a shotgun.

Gun control laws didn’t help in this situation (they are already on the books, and were ignored), and more laws won’t help.

Our focus is deliberately diverted at every opportunity by the Leftist loonies that want to disarm us and get us to fall for their globalist agenda, and we need to speak up in defense of our Constitutionally-mandated rights as enumerated by the Second Amendment.
