Nancy Pelosi Breaks House Parliamentary Rules By Calling Trump a ‘Racist!’

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of David Harris Jr.

The tension level on Capitol Hill was palpable, to the point that it erupted into a floor fight in the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon. Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke in favor of a resolution condemning “racist” comments by President Trump — and Pelosi’s words were eventually ruled out of order. Democrat House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced the decision from the House parliamentarian.

Breitbart News reported the following:

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was found to have broken the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives by calling President Donald Trump “racist” on the floor Tuesday, but Democrats voted to keep her remarks in the record and restore her speaking privileges.

Pelosi had delivered a statement calling the president racist as a prelude to voting on a House resolution to that effect. Rep. Chris Collins (R-GA) raised a point of order, objecting that Pelosi’s statement was a violation of House rules.

It transpired that Collins was correct:

Democrats, in a party-line vote, ensured that Pelosi’s words would not be taken down, and that she would not, as required, lose her speaking privileges for the day because she left the chamber during the debate on her violation.

The vote on the resolution will proceed anyway.

I don’t suppose it strikes you as odd that Democrats sidestep the rules of the House when it’s to their advantage, does it? Aren’t they the paragons of virtue, and regularly show us the way to behave with their impeccable decorum and self-restraint?

What seems most apparent is that they want to get rid of President Trump, no matter what it takes to make that happen, and they’ll drum up any excuse to throw mud at the wall and hope something sticks.

One possibility is that they’re generating yet another distraction for the sole purpose of taking our attention away from the border crisis.

Whatever the case, I think they see their house of cards falling at an ever-increasing rate, and their panic continues to build as we get closer to reelecting President Trump in 2020.
