Officers arrested Domingo Lopez Jr., 45, on Sunday afternoon.  A witness pointed to him as the person who used a Molotov cocktail to light a fire along the Interstate 205 freeway. Officers had just helped fire officials extinguish the fire. According to police reports, Lopez “confirmed he lit the fire with the device.”

Near the scene, officers seized a plastic bottle they recovered as evidence. They posted a photo of it in their reports. One might think that no one would tempt fate by throwing an incendiary device. Lopez seems to have thrown caution to the wind.

About an hour or so after the fire was extinguished, someone flagged down East Precinct officers. They pointed out Mr. Lopez, who was staying in a tent not far from their location. Officers contacted Lopez, and he was arrested.

Lopez was charged with reckless burning and disorderly conduct in the second degree. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail. Arson investigators in Portland’s Police Department are involved and are continuing to expand their investigations to see if other criminal charges are warranted.

Anyone with a modicum of sanity would think that Lopez would have had to stay in jail. At the very least, you’d think he wouldn’t commit any other crimes upon release.  However, if that’s what you believe, you would be wrong, Lopez was apparently released and decided to (allegedly) set additional fires.

At 3:37 a.m. the next day, officers and Portland Fire and Rescue were dispatched again “to a report of multiple fires burning along the west side of the I-205 freeway.”

In a second news release, Portland Police reported:

Portland Fire and Rescue extinguished three of them while passing community members put out the other three. All were caught early. No one was injured and no structures were burnt. Officers located Domingo Lopez, Junior walking along the shoulder and arrested him. They seized a lighter as evidence.

What gets me is that Lopez was released after the first incident without bail! Wildfires up and down Washington, Oregon, and California are devastating the entire west coast! Seven deaths were reported in Oregon alone as of Saturday. Why wouldn’t authorities take Lopez’s actions seriously enough to keep him locked up?

The Oregonian reported:

Seven people have been confirmed dead, dozens more are unaccounted for and hundreds have lost their homes as historic wildfires continue to burn throughout Oregon.

The blazes have scorched more than 1 million acres throughout the state, spanning from the southern border to the coast and Clackamas County. That figure is about twice the yearly average over the past 10 years.

A top state official also acknowledged Friday that Oregon is preparing for a “mass fatality incident” as the state’s death toll continues to rise.

The blazes have caused widespread evacuations, forcing more than 40,000 to flee their homes. Many evacuations remain in effect Saturday, though some had been downgraded.

A disturbing aspect in all of this an attitude of seeming disregard of some for their fellow man. In California, we know that a gender-reveal party celebration was the start of a wildfire that consumed over 10,000 acres. It reminds me of the “invincibility” that teens tend to embrace. They know it all, and nothing can touch them. As the juvenile Lion King said, “I laugh in the face of danger!

We know of at least four people who have been arrested for arson across the region. Do they have direct ties to Antifa? As of this writing, I can’t confirm or deny whether or not they are. Would it surprise me? Not in the least.

The riots across the country are virtually exclusive to Democrat-controlled cities. Why is that, do you suppose? The police and other law enforcement agencies have been hamstrung to the point of complete impotence. The police can’t do their jobs because the liberals in City Hall think they will get voters to blame President Trump if there’s enough destruction. I think the fires are a part of the bigger package of mayhem the Left is trying to use to tear apart the country.
