Kamala Harris was on TV with CNN’s John King, and King asked her about the Green New Deal. Specifically, he asked if we can afford to spend between 6 and 8 trillion dollars more a year when our entire budget is $4.5 trillion a year. Harris commented that of course we can afford it. Can we really? If we tax everyone, not just the rich at 100% of income, it wouldn’t cover the costs of the failed Green New Deal. So, where is the money going to come from? When you do your household budget and you find that you are barely able to meet your bills, do you plan to go out and buy a $350,000 Bentley?
Sunday on CNN’s “Inside Politics,” Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) argued the United States could afford the trillions of dollars the Green New Deal could cost taxpayers.
CNN’s John King asked, “If you talk to Democratic voters, they’re hungry, and they want ideas. So you’ll hear things like the Green New Deal. You’ll hear things like Medicare for all. You hear things whether it’s taxed at what point do you say that’s our north star, but we have to be realists?”
Harris said, “There’s no question we have to be practical. But being practical also recognizes that climate change is an existential threat to us as human beings. Being practical recognizes that greenhouse gas emissions are threatening our air and threatening the planet and that it is well within our capacity as human beings to change our behaviors in a way that we can reduce its effects. That’s practical.”
King asked, “Can we afford it?”
Harris said, “Of course we can afford it.”
Harris calls the Green New Deal an investment and that we will get so much more back than we put in. I don’t know, but my guess is that she got her economics degree the same place that AOC got hers – from a CrackerJacks box. First of all, switching to all renewable fuels is very costly. It would devastate our manufacturing industry and send it packing back overseas – and that will be to a country that uses mostly coal to create electricity. So, where is the gain?
My book is here! And I personally handed a copy to our President at the White House!!! I hope you enjoy it
