The Politically Correct Death Squad is in full snowflake mode over budget cuts that single out the “abortion mill” Planned Parenthood for the first time in history.
PPFA’s Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer Dawn Laguens said of Trump’s budget cuts:
“This is the worst budget for women and women’s health in a generation. It singles out Planned Parenthood, guts programs designed to help women and their families put food on the table, get the medical care they need, and make ends meet.“
Ms. Laguens went on to say:
“Gimmicks and misdirection cannot cover up a deadly agenda that would hurt women and prevent access to basic health care in the U.S. and across the globe.”
I’m not going to pontificate today the end of the abortion industry. That’s a topic for another day, but I am going to stress that there is nothing in the Constitution that gives the federal government the power to take a dollar from one person and use it to buy something for someone else.
It’s ironic that a woman who represents an organization that recently was accused of harvesting and selling baby body parts for profit would use the phrases, ‘a deadly agenda’ and ‘basic health care’ in the same sentence.
Millions of Americans would categorize the budget cuts as bringing back a bit of sanity to our public policy. Government should not be funding abortion providers, especially the biggest provider of abortions in the U.S. The Hyde Amendment has not protected taxpayers who oppose abortion from funding them.
Planned Parenthood is fooling no one when they claim none of the taxpayer handouts go to fund abortions. Both houses of Planned Parenthood, the abortion side and the health care facilities, reap the benefits via offsets of the government funding. It’s the same organization regardless of legalese, and when one side gets government funding it most definitely offsets the costs of the entire operation.
And even if PP were right and it didn’t provide an offset, taxpayers are still paying for abortions.
As best I can determine, taxpayers subsidize roughly 24% of all abortion costs in the U.S.with 6.6% borne by federal taxpayers and the remaining 17.4% picked up by state taxpayers. If we apply the 24% figure to the total number of abortions, this is equivalent to taxpayers paying the full cost of 250,000 abortions a year, with about 70,000 financed by federal taxpayers and 180,000 financed by state taxpayers
Of course PP makes the argument that abortion is a Constitutional right. I’m sorry, but I have read the Constitution, and I can’t seem to find it in there. You can read the Constitution, hold it up to a light, upside down, and pour lemon juice on it, but you will not find abortion listed as a right.
But let’s give PP that one. Let’s say, for the sake of their silly argument, that abortion is in fact a Constitutional right. We have a Second Amendment right to protect ourselves, but the government doesn’t provide us with guns. We have a First Amendment right to Free Speech, but the government doesn’t give us bullhorns to help our voices be heard or laptop computers to post speech online.
So, why is it, then, that the Death Squad believes the government should fund their so-called right? If the government doesn’t provide money or materials for any other rights what puts PP and other abortion providers above the rest?
As you prepare your hate mail remember that I did not demand an end to the abortion industry. I am merely saying that the federal government does not have the power to force taxpayers to fund it.
